Maria asks…

Do I need 4WD on camping trip to Costa Rica?

I am going to Costa Rica for vacation for the first time. I like going to various parts of the country for sightseeing.

My question is do I need 4WD or I can get to all interesting parts of the country in a regular car?

For example in Maui one doesn’t need 4WD because there are almost no off-road attractions. In Kauai’i there are quite a few places where you can only get by 4WD.

So how about Costa Rica?

Martin answers:

You should use a 4WD car, if you want to go Monteverde the Cloud Forest you need a big car or 4WD, and some other places to, Rincon de la Vieja, Palo Verde National Park, and Ostional Nesting Turttles, and many more, use a 4WD it´s you best choice.
Good luck.

Laura asks…

Which National Park in Victoria should we visit for a 4WD and camping holiday?

Martin answers:

The Grampians has HEAPS of dedicated 4WD ONLY tracks. From the ‘tame’ to totally crazy!
The Grampians are huge. I can’t remember the actual size but somewhere like nearly 3,000 square kilometres.

The bush is scattered with LOT’S of free camping sites.
You can get details of the best ones, like by a creek and off the road, from the Halls Gap Tourist Centre or the Park Rangers.

Daniel asks…

What is a good family 4wd that has low running costs and is good on fuel?

My husband and I want to buy a new car for our growing family. It needs to be about medium sized, we want a 4wd as we go camping a lot but it will also be our running around town car so it needs to have low running costs and be good on fuel.

Does anyone have any suggestions??

Thanks

Martin answers:

Honda CRV or Subaru Outback. Very good reliability. Good space without being huge. Good fuel economy. Comfortable.
