Thomas asks…

What is a better place to go camping, Ohiopyle or Kinzua?

Me and my buddies are planning a trip next summer to either kinzua or Ohiopyle. we were planning on doing some whitewater kayaking, hiking, mt. biking, and camping.

just curious to see if anyone out there has been to either of those places and what your opinions of them are.
They are both located in Western Pa.

Kinzua is by the pa/new york border in Mt. Jewett, pa

Ohiopyle is in south western pa by Uniontown.
Kinzua is located in the Allegheny National Forrest

Crowded and full of loud drunk kayakers and rafters.

Michael asks…

ohiopyle maryland is the place worth going to?

My neighbors want to take me camping with them to ohiopyle and they told me the place is great and has good food and the rafting is 5 hrs long!!! IS IT FUN!!?? THAT’S WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW

Martin answers:

I drove through there last year. The State Park itself is not in Maryland, actually, but just a couple of miles across the border in Pennsylvania. The Landscape is beautiful, and they have a number of great waterfalls to look at & take photos. I know that they are big with water activities, including a natural water slide within the rocks.
But I wasn’t there for the water – I went to one of the world’s most famous buildings, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater. I also visited Kentuck Knob, a much smaller building also built by Wright.

Here’s a link to the State Park: http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/ohiopyle.aspx

And here are some details on the several rafting opportunities both sides of the border and warnings about the dangers and the level of experience you need: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/A1075592

Lisa asks…

Do you think that this place looks like the shire?

I went camping at Ohiopyle with a few friends last week. We visited Kentuck knob and the scenic overlook there looks just like the shire!:) You know, from LOTR. One of my friends agreed and the other one didn’t so I would like to see what you guys think.
