Camping/outdoor discount gear website?

A little while back I was told about a website where they put up deals on primarily outdoor/camping gear and equipment for about 15-20 minutes at a time at incredibly discounted rates. Now I can not remember for the life of me what the website was. Does anyone know of a website like this? I want to say it started with an ‘s’ but don’t take that as gospel!
Any thoughts?!
Not to worry – I have figured it out – steepandcheap.com

Thanks anyway!

Martin answers:

I have had much better luck with geartrade.com than steepandcheap. I would highly recommend it, as I have gotten a lot of high-end and mid-range gear at up to 75%+ off.

What equipment do we really need to go camping?

My husband, son (8 months) and I are going camping later this month, for three days. We have a tent, a canopy, an air-mattress, a lamp, sleeping bags and we’re going to buy one of those camping stoves. For our son, we have his pack-n-play. What else should we buy? It’s our first real outdoor tent-camping experience.

Martin answers:

I’m going to advise you bring a first aid kit, lots of flashlights, warm clothes and that you have some way of keeping your child contained within a certain area. At 8 months he probably can crawl. All you need is to be wrestling with the tent and then, “Honey, wheres Johnny?” Be very prepared and safety oriented. Have fun!

Outdoor/camping brands?

I am going on my first archaeological dig with my school this summer, I am starting to research the equipment that I will need to figure out how much it will cost me. Does any one know what the best brands are for outdoor equipment? I am going to be out there for 6 weeks so I don’t want to cut corners on the important stuff but I am also on a small budget.

Martin answers:

I love Kelty products. And I buy most of my gear from Campmor.

Fun things to do when winter tent camping?

we have a trip with our camping tent and other outdoor equipment, so we want some suggestion about any funny things to do?

Martin answers:

Hi Doris, Funny things to do? If you’re going to be in snow country build a snow creature, make weird snow angels. Other snow activities include taking a snow shoe hike, ice fishing, identifying and following wild animal tracks or cross country ski. Fun things to do would be star gazing, campfire stories and songs, take a hike. Full moon snow shoeing or cross country skiing is a lot of fun too.
