Anyone know any camp/youth planning seasonal jobs in Alaska?
I have a 4 year recreation degree and want to work their this summer. I want a position where i don’t have alot of tasks and can have a vacation while in Alaska. I don’t fish, not into housekeeping, and don’t drive well. Thanks.

Martin answers:
Www.coolworks.com is a great resource, along with www.acacamps.org.
There are a few summer camps up there, a campfire camp, and then various others. But if you don’t want a lot of tasks maybe working at a summer camp isn’t the best idea.

I live in Alaska, I too have a job 8-5 and would like to work parttime. Is there anyone in Alaska?
I’ve worked over half my life and would like to do what I enjoy, sewing, crocheting, knitting and camping, raised 6 children. I live in the same town with my parents, who are elderly and require help from time to time, raising a grandson and holding a full time job gets overwhelming at times. I also have bills that I am paying besides the high cost of rent, food and gas, $4.29 per gallon. Does anyone have any suggestins?

Martin answers:
$4.29 per gallon sorry ………….

Fish processing jobs in Alaska?
I’m from CA and it’s difficult for me to come into contact with with fish processing plants in Alaska. In fact, I don’t even know of any fish processing plants in Alaska. All the ones that I have found online don’t seem to want to hire anybody that is not from Alaska. Can I get some information on how to go about getting a job gutting fish for three months? Maybe a list of different fish processing plants to look into? I don’t care where in Alaska I have to go as long as I get out of this god forsaken hippie liberal state that has no employment opportunities AT ALL. I am willing to leave whenever and work as long as I can too. (4 months 6 months I don’t care how long of a contract it be) The one thing that I do prefer is it be a place that feeds and shelters me. I don’t necessarily feel like camping in the cold for months at a time. Any point in the right direction is appreciated. Thanks

Martin answers:
Often, many companies take advantage of the profits to be made in the fishing industry and to find a job You normally have to join a site or some sort of program like:
http://alaskanfishingemployment.com/fishingjobs.htm
http://www.alaskajobfinder.com/
Some other ones, like ones run by the alaska government include of:
http://labor.state.ak.us/esd_alaska_jobs/
http://labor.state.ak.us/
This site will tell you all about how to use those sites:
http://www.howtodothings.com/careers/employment-in-alaska-fishing-companies
I am sorry I can not give you a list of them but as you said, lists are Very hard to come by. I don’t think the processing plant would “feed and shelter” you. You will always have to find a place to stay in town. Just a suggestion why don’t you try for a processing job in California I hear there are plenty in the San Fransisco area.

Richard asks…
Where can a fourteen year old living in Los Angeles get a summer job?
I am fourteen years old looking for a summer job, but by this summer I’ll be fifteen. I need to raise money to pay for this trip to Alaska. I’m mainly looking for summer jobs where I can work with kids at camps and maybe teach them soccer. However, most camps only offers positions to volunteers. It would also be really helpful if the camp had a website. I live in Los Angeles by the way, so nothing too far, maybe thirty or forty miles max.

Martin answers:
You need to be 15 in order to get a work permit. Since you are underage, you will have to try the usual: Babysitting, yard work, and dog walking. You will have to ask around local small businesses to see if they will hire you and pay you under the table. Don’t bother with the big companies, their policies prohibit hiring you.
As for camps, they won’t hire 14 or 15 YO. Insurance requires them to hire 18YO. Under 18, you’ll be a volunteer Jr. Counselor or Counselor-In-Training.
Good luck!
